Why I made the What The Duck? blanket
Sometimes the funniest patterns come from simple ideas. I wanted to make a farm animal crochet design that didn’t take itself too seriously. Ducks already have plenty of personality, so adding a funny phrase felt like the perfect match.
I also enjoy making blankets that become conversation starters. Not every blanket has to be serious or seasonal. Sometimes it’s nice to crochet something that makes family and friends laugh when they see it on the sofa.

Graph size and color information
This duck crochet pattern uses an 80 x 100 pixel graph, giving you a total of 8,000 squares. That size works well for many blanket sizes once you choose your yarn, hook, and preferred C2C technique.
The pattern uses five colors, making it easy to plan your yarn before you begin. Check the square counts below so you can estimate how much yarn you’ll need and decide what size blanket you’d like to make.

The same graph can become many different blanket sizes depending on the yarn weight, hook size, and whether you use standard corner-to-corner (C2C) crochet or mini C2C crochet. It can work well as a baby blanket, lapghan, throw, children’s blanket, or even a larger bed blanket with the right materials.
I created blanket calculators that help you estimate both the finished blanket size and the amount of yarn you’ll need. Before using them, make a small swatch with your chosen yarn and hook. Once your swatch is finished, use the calculators to work out your blanket measurements and yarn requirements.
